| As such, I've decided to just keep one blog open. I'm officially moving this organization over to my other blog:

In the end, I just knew more people over there.

| WBC
Hey, are you any of you interested in going to the USA-Japan WBC*
game on Sunday? It's at 1pm down at Angels Stadium. I've
never been to the Olympics or anything like that, so I think it'd be a
pretty fun experience.
* For those of you who don't know the World Baseball Classic is basically the World Cup** of baseball.
** The World Cup is nation vs. nation soccer tournament played every 4
years. In fact, there's one this upcoming summer. Outside
of the US, the World Cup is probably the biggest sporting event in the
world. The WBC is certainly not at that level, but should still
be pretty fun. | | |
| February complete. Result... mixed-bag.
I know what you're thinking... it's been a month since I've really
posted anything. That means this is going to be a lame
month-in-review post. Well, you're right.
Congratulations! You've earned yourself a hardy handshake the
next time I see you and have nothing better to do... Let's begin.
(Forgive me if I forget something important.)
The month started with Super Bowl XL.
As you can read in a previous post I was pretty excited about the game
with the Seahawks being in it and all. Sadly the game didn't live
up to my expectations. Neither team played particularly well, and
the refs made numerous bad calls against the Hawks. If you're
curious this
is a pretty good summary of the game. Despite all that I had a
great time at my party, plus there's always next year! I'm
currently working on setting up an unofficial Seahawks bar in West LA,
so that all of the Seattle ex-pats in the area can get together on
Sundays. I'm also tentatively planning trips to San Francisco and
Phoenix to go to those Seattle away games next year.
The
Super Bowl festivities were followed by the yearly visit of the Alvin
and Nick two-headed birthday beast. Between the two of us, I was
essentially celebrating a birthday from Saturday the 11th through
Wednesday the 15th! It was pretty tiring, but I can't
complain. It was great to see so many friends and know that they
all think I'm adequately cool enough to warrant their friendship.
Wooo! However before the birthday cake was gone the even larger
menace of the Enigmaversary reared it's 20-sided head. Most of
you that read this were present at some or most of the activities, so
I'll just say that I had a great time all weekend. Nova Express
was even cooler than I imagined, the party at Jay and Becca's looked
like a rousing success (despite some early hiccups and exploding
tires), and ultimate frisbee was so much fun that we're going to play
again this weekend! I encourage all of you to come play on Sunday
if you can :D Oh, the gaming day was pretty good too, although it
felt a bit rushed because I was signed up to play games almost non-stop
from morning till night.
Sadly, the three day weekend
also ended in tragedy. The younger sister of my friend Gabe
passed away on the 20th from liver failure. She was only
22... It didn't really sink in that she had even died until I
went to the funeral last weekend. I'd never attended a funeral
before nor experienced the death of anyone I knew before, so seeing the
coffin in person was quite a sobering experience. The service was
nice, as was the get together afterward at the family's house.
I'm really glad I was able to attend. It's hard to be so far away
while a friend goes through something so painful. All in all, the
family is doing as well as can be expected, and I know they'll get
through this. As with all things it just takes time. I know
Gabe must be tired of hearing it, but it's true.
The
weekend before that I went on a nostalgic ski trip with my dad and my
brother back up north. We spent two days at Mission Ridge,
a ski area we used to go to all the time as kids. The hotel we
used to stay at is now a Super 8*, but the mountain's still there and I
can't imagine two better guys to spend the weekend with. My mom
also through a belated birthday party for me, in which I was the lucky
recipient of the family's new crappy gift program. Now before you
think I'm being mean, let me explain. My mom's a pretty funny
person. In one of her fits of inspiration, she decided to start a
new birthday tradition this year in which the birthday boy or girl
receives the ugliest/corniest/stupidest gift imaginable on top of the
other many fine gifts they normally receive. You can guess who
had the first birthday this year :) I would try to describe what
she got me, but I don't think I can do it justice. Let's just say
it involves polka-dot pantaloons. If you'd like to see it, just
inquire about it the next time you come by my apartment.
On the grad school front, I have had three rejections (Yale, Berkeley,
and Stanford) and one acceptance (UCSD) with five more to go. I'm
actually really excited about getting into UCSD because they have an
awesome econ program! Whew... I guess that's it for the recap.
*This resulted in us staying at a different hotel, which led to my brother's first encounter with Magic Fingers... hahaha
PS - My medic in Urban Dead is named Ian Graeme. I'm headquartered in St Silverius' Church in Gatcombeton. Let me know if your character's in the area!
| This just in!
I'm a lazy SOB. Has it really been over a month since I
posted? Yaoza! Hmm... I'll put something new up tonight or
tomorrow. Promise
In other news, the Super Bowl sucked ass.
Oh! If you're not playing Urban Dead, you
should. It's addictive as hell, which is appropriate given that it takes place in a zombie-infested hellhole.
